Building on the Past

The Pownal Historical Society cares about Pownal’s future as well as its history. That is why we spearheaded the effort to save a 200+-year-old schoolhouse in Pownal Center. A PHS board member came up with the innovative idea of moving the 1812 building and attaching it to the new Town Hall. The Society spent four years planning, petitioning, and getting tax payers’ approval, but the idea became reality in 2022. The old school now has a new purpose. It serves as the meeting room for the Town’s official business.
